Simon Chan reports:
The champion for the first Wah Yan Basketball League was born today at the Western Park Indoor Games Hall. With the cheering of all the supporters, WYHK 67 STS had a close tie (17 to 14) in the first half but eventually won over the young Maestro players by a clear margin. The final score was 57 to 34. Both teams showed good fighting spirit and sportsmanship.
Nevertheless, the Maestro player Chung Tat Yan seized the top scorer with 15 points in this game and overall 87 points in 5 games.
The fight for 2nd runner-ups was exciting even more shouting. The 70s Pal took the lead initially but was overtaken by the Greens in the first half. With a tie at 20s, the Greens planned strong attacks with several clear passing leading to scoring by their captain Astrar Lam. The Greens took the 2nd runner-ups at the end by three points.
In the first match, the Yanites won the Blue Colleagues in a friendly atmosphere.
The presentation ceremony took place immediately after. Guests of honour included KK Lam, current Chairman of WYHKPSA; Richard Leung, Chairman of WYKPSA, and George SP Tam, Principal of Wah Yan College, HK. See the photos for their smiling faces!!
The organizing committee of the WYBL would like to take the opportunity to thank all the teams for their eager particpation and all the helpers to make this event a succes. Special thanks go to the Wah Yan College HK for providing the venue and support (special solute to Mr. Ip Fok Wah for his guidance), the HK Basketball Association for providing the professional referees, and the Western Park Indoor Games Hall for providing the excellent facilities for the final matches. Also the website hosting and updates by Nicholas Tsui and his company has been an excellent communication vehicle -- it saves us all the photos cost with instant updates!! Lastly, the games have been a good opportunity to unite old boys of Wah Yan and foster friendship. Hope to see more teams joining next year.
