Eugene Tang: "In early May 2010, Fr. Deignan, Fr. Chow and a few alumni visited Beijing to participate in the First Annual Matteo-Ricci Symposium. It was at a gathering during this auspicious occasion that we decided the time was right to officially start our Beijing Chapter. With the growing importance of the Chinese economy, we see an increasing number of Wahyanites residing in Beijing. Hence, this Chapter serves to gather our fellow Wahyanites together and aims to build up a strong supportive network for students, alumni and family. In addition, we hope to act as a means for Wahyanites in Beijing to contribute to the growth and development of our schools. Finally, we would like to extend our heartfelt invitation to all alumni living or moving to Beijing to join our local chapter and participate in our activities." Contact:

願炯大師 (吳兆炯) sharing at Class of 1959's 50th Anniversary Dinner: Video Clip - submitted by Luke Wong '59 |
The 2nd Annual PSA Wine & Dine (aka Dr. Chung KL Wine & Dine) was held on
Monday July 26 at Ivan The Kozak in Central. This dinner started by Martin
Kwan last year with PSA event coordinators to discuss the year plan. This
year I extend the invitation to all PSA Interest Group convenors and in
total 15 people attended. We discussed the direction of PSA for the coming
year over scrumptious Russian cuisine as well as many bottles of wine.
The mentorship group held a food & wine event at a restaurant in Central on 16 Jul 2010. Despite the hoisting of typhoon signal no.1, we had 43 participants including 28 Wahyanites and 15 guests. Silas Chan '85 made a short sharing of his wine knowlegde and helped match different wines with different dishes. Everyone found the event so enjoyable that it did not end until after mid-night. The PSA AGM was held at the Chinese Club, 8/F., 21-22 Connaught Road Central, Hong Kong last evening followed by a dinner to celebrate Father's Day with our Reverend Fathers (Fr. Deignan, Fr. Coghlan, Fr. Chow and Fr. Baptista).
Who says lawyers are all talk and no action ....as promised we did make our gathering and what a crowd we had. A bunch much merrier and cordial than the ones opposite the street last evening. Some 30 lawyers turned up for drinks from the age of 21 (young graduates) to 83 Mr. William W.S. Lo whom we believe to be the most senior practising Wah Yan lawyer now in Hong Kong while Mr. Partick Yu is of course the most senior Wah Yan lawyer of us all.
15 of us were able to resist the World Cup televising and stayed for dinner. Here's a photo of us at the China Club!

Old boy Armen Ho (1993) tied the knots with Pauline on 12th June 2010. Many will remember Ho Tung as the Aron Kwok look alike in Wah Yan.
He graduated as an Accountant but after a couple of years with the Big-Fours, he went to England and got himself a Law Degree. He is now a
Financial Controller with a real estate fund specializing in PRC Education Charity projects. The wedding was a very jolly feast with much
Wah Yan presence including his Pun U Class Mistress Ms. Cecilia Lau. Many will of course also recall Armen was an active Venture Scout
and a Cub Scout Leader for Pun U Primary School for many years.

Many of you may recall we have always held St. Joseph College as some kind of rival in one sense or another. Well that's also
the case in Scouting. Our 15th HKG has for decades crossed swords with the 1st HKG (St. Joseph College HK) in numerous Scouting
competitions. These battles have historically been affectionately known as FiFi events by the scouting community (First vs Fifteen).
Last week on 21st May 2010, we had another FiFi of a very different nature. Michael Sy our Scout Troop Leader (as well as one of the webmasters for the PSA) took 1st HKG Leader Jennifer as his bride and tied the knot of matrimony by a very special wedding held at the Tai Tam Scout Campsite. Everything including the Civil Celebrant was a Scout. Please click to see more. Our three cheers to Michael!
Dr. Stephan Rothlin S.J., Chairman of the Association for International Business Ethics, will direct a contemplation course at Xavier House, Cheung Chau, from 11th to 13th June (Friday to Sunday).
"He has represented us in basketball, football, athletics, table tennis, badminton, tennis, swimming.... A hard-working
and reliable athlete.... He has instilled a strong sense of fair play in every game he played..... He deserves to be the
Sportsman of the Year". Do these phrases sound familiar to you? Yes, you're right, those are the phases Ip Sir likes to
use when describing our Sportsmen of the Year. Though we may not be able to read these phrases in our school year book next year
as our Sports Master will be retiring after this school year, the liberal and free sporting environment Ip Sir and other teachers
established will remain unchanged.
To bid our Sports Master's farewell, we staged an All Star Football and Basketball Games followed by a Farewell Dinner on May 15. As a rough estimation, over 120 old boys, many of the them Sportsmen of the Year, joined the party to reminisce the good old days we spent with Ip Sir in Wah Yan. It was full of fun every minute and Ip Sir showed us again his never declining football and basketball skills and fair judgment during the ball games.
Despite Ip Sir's retirement from his teaching life, we are pleased to know that he will keep contributing as a basketball referee and a basketball commissioner as well as devoting more time in voluntary work with Mrs. Ip for the needy in mainland China. We sincerely wish Ip Sir a healthy, happy and valuable retirement life.

This season sees the Kowloon boys dominating the Premier League positions with the Hong Kong boys mastering the Elite posts. Galacticos 99 (WYHK99) and Dai Dui (WYHK88) managed to keep their enthusiasm in football and got the Elite Champion and 1st Runners Up respectively.
Mr. Anthony Ip has decided to leave his teaching career after this school year to spend more time with his beloved wife and family. He would also extend his contributions for Hong Kong in basketball refereeing. He will be in charge of all the referees in basketball during the upcoming Asian Games in Guangzhou later this year. He will not forget his Wah Yan colleagues, students, fans, and friends and will be available when time permits. He spent the night watching the English FA Cup Final with some of us after a big sports party at Wah Yan and a farewell dinner for him.

Dear Doctors and Fellow Graduates of Wan Yan,Around May last year, some 40 medical doctors from our mother school shared a wonderful evening with fond memories at a dinner gathering. This year, we would like to invite you again to a dinner gathering on April 10 (Sat). The venue is the same as last year: 8/F, Chinese Club Building at 21-22 Connaught Road Central, Central District.

The annual gathering of the “Students OF the Year Scheme” was held on 31st January 2010 at the Student Activity Center
of the school. The Principal Mr. George Tam and the newly appointed Assistant Principals were invited as the guests of the occasion.
Mr. Tam expressed the wish that SOYS can play a more significant role in the development of the school, Hong Kong and China as a whole.
The participants also extended their gratitude towards our Alumnus Philip Ching who started the scheme in 1986 which provided a very good
platform to link up the students of different years. Through the scheme, the participants decided to play a more prominent role to link
up the students of different years starting with building a closer relationship among the SOYS of different years as the first step of the
action to be taken in the future. - Paul Yip (Assistant Principal)
