Power and Affection beyond Atomic energy or Gandhi
Mr. K.P. Lee and Mr. K.S. Fung were kind enough to accept our lunch invitation on Friday. No less than 39 dishes of dim-sum were ordered and devoured but the writer can vouch for the two much loved Ah Sir, they behaved very disciplined and ate very moderately. A very pleasant two hours gathering exchanging information and memories. Mr. Fung learned much about the latest smart phones, we are conspiring to recruit him into the new age cyber world !

Greetings from the Foundation!
Dear Performers and Friends,
Greetings from the Foundation! We are most pleased to report to you that our fundraising concert, completed on 22 December 2012, had enabled us to raise over $10 million for the two Wah Yan. We would not have made this event without your selfless love and support. Thus please rest assured that we will continue our efforts to gather more resources for our young Wahyanites.
Please feel free to visit our FaceBook to view some video clips uploaded by some alumni as well. Again our heartfelt thanks for your support over the years. May we wish you and your families a good holiday and a very happy 2013!

Christmas Message from the Chairman
Christmas is just around the corner. On behalf of the WYHKPSA, I wish you all a Joyful Christmas and a Prosperous & Healthy New Year.
While all of us expect to enjoy a prosperous 2013, please be reminded that our school is still in need of money to finish the new school hall currently under construction. A Wall of Stars fund raising scheme has been initiated about a year ago. Unfortunately, out of the 1000 Stars offered, only a little over 200 have been subscribed. For a donation of HK$10,000, a donor may name a Star after a person who has contributed to the well being of Wah Yan. A star plate with his name inscribed will be permanently displayed on the Wall of Stars in the new building ....more details here.
My wish is for each year of graduation to take up 10 to 20 Stars. If 4 classmates, each contributing $2500, are sharing one star, 40 classmates can easily take up 10 Stars. Needless to say, it would be great if more classmates can afford to subscribe one or more stars each. To set a good example, classmates of my year have already subscribed 42 Stars. Please join us soon to share our care and love for our alma mater.
Meanwhile, I hope you can make good use of this festive season by spreading the word among your classmates and asking them to contact me should they require my assistance to book a star. Thank you in anticipation.

NO PARKING at School
Owing to the intensification of construction works of the school hall, visitors' parking in the playground area is closed until further notice.
The lower car park will remain open only as a pick-up & drop-off area for those attending Mass, including Mid-night Mass on Christmas Eve. Your patience and understanding is much appreciated.

Braving Hurricane Sandy with our East Coast brothers
I just exchanged emails with Lap Yan Cheng, the Co-Chairman of NYIC 2012 and noted the hurricane caused a lot of damages to his home in Long Island (Watch CNN "Sandy's impact: State by state" to understand the extensive devastation caused by Sandy). They might still need to wait a few more days before having power resumed.
I would like to put a notice on our PSA website to show our brothers in the East Coast that they have been on our mind and in our prayers since the storm hit and that, if there is any way we can help in the long and painful recovery process which could be long and painful, please do let us know. Report from the Chair - "An eventful fortnight"
4 Oct: The PSA Wine & Dine dinner was great just like all the other ones organized by our PSA Vice-Chairman Silas Chan. Can't thank him enough for suggesting the 新疆菜 restaurant tucked away in Water Street. The food was great and it's our honour to have 4 retired teachers to join us too. They were Mr. Fung Kam Seng, Mr. Chau Siu Hay, Mr. Lee Kwok Pui and Mr Ip Fook Wah. If any of you'd like to try that restaurant, please let either me or Silas know. Personally, I don't mind going back there again. Web Album
29 Sep: Mentors from the Mentorship program, headed by our first organizer Willy Cheng, went to Cheung Chau to have seafood dinner. Special thanks to Bob Lau, a graduate of the '71 who grew up in Cheung Chau and his buddy + fellow classmate 墨魚師兄 who is still living in Cheung Chau since he was born 60 years ago. Without them, we would not have such good food and most important at very reasonable price for that evening. Anyone who likes to have good & reasonable seafood might have to consider being one of our Mentors first. Web Album
27 Sep: We had dinner with the Co-Chairman of this year's International Conference Cheng Lap Yan and his wife together with Class'71 classmates. Lap Yan and his wife were spending their 2 weeks' vacation in Hong Kong and S.E. Asia. This year's IC, held in New York in August, was a great success. Special thanks to Lap Yan, his Co-chairman Peter Lau and their Organization Committee. We are talking about having the upcoming IC to be held in HK in 2014. More details would be released as soon as things are finalized. Web Ablum

23 Sep: The President, Vice President, Vice Chairman and myself visited Past President Nick Tsui at his home. Our conversation covered various PSA topics but, for the most part, the focus was either on the oysters courtesy of the VC, or the wine I brought, or the oxtail stew prepared by Mrs Tsui.
19 Sep: Annual Swimming Gala was held on Sept 19 at the Victoria Park Swimming Pool. The weather on that day was just great. A bit cloudy and cool at first. We did have a little concern if it'd rain or not. But thank God, it remained perfectly fine throughout the day. The College is sad to announce that Mr. Ng Yue Chow（吳汝洲老師）, who suffered from cancer, passed away peacefully this morning due to complications casued by pneumonia at Princess Margaret Hospital.
Mr. Ng had served in Wah Yan for 15 years. His dedication to the promotion of Chinese music in the College and the setting up of the Chinese Orchestra of Wah Yan, and his popularity among students are without question.
May he now rest in eternal peace in the loving embrace of our Lord and may God watch over his family during this painful time.

Vote of Thanks from our Student Ambassador
The 13th Wah Yan International Conference was successfully held from 3rd to 5th August 2012 at Kimmel Centre of New York University and Marriott Downtown. It was indeed my utmost honour to attend the Conference as the Student Ambassador. Alumni from all over the world came to the Conference to obtain updates about the school and to share the joy with one another, under the theme, "Men for Others".
I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Past Students' Association for sponsoring and arranging my trip to Toronto, Ottawa and New York from 28th July to 7th August 2012, especially Mr. Gary Ching, Mr. Raymond Yu, Mr. Simon Cheng, Mr. Silas Chan and Mr. Michael Au. I must thank Wah Yan College (Hong Kong) Ontario Alumni Association, Wah Yan College Kowloon Alumni Association of Ontario and Wah Yan College Alumni Association US Eastern Chapter for arranging my trip. Credits must also be given to all the organizers of the Conference, including Mr. Cheng Lap Yan, Mr. Peter Lau and Mr. Carl Leung. I must also thank Mr. Stephen Ching, Mr. and Mrs. Sonny Sie, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Chan, Mr. and Mrs. James Siu and Mr. Anthony Ho for their kind hospitality and also Mr. Joe Shum, Mr. Clement Chung, Mr. Andrew Tang, Mr. Jeffery Mah, Mr. Gus Yeung, Mr. Joseph Wong, Mr. David Wong, Mr. Raymond Kwong and Mr. Raymond Kan for showing me around the city. It is indeed an eye-opener. I would also like to thank Mr. George Tam, Dr. Tan and teachers for their support and guidance. I do treasure this invaluable experience. Thank you Wah Yan!

New York IC2012
On Aug 2, Fr. Russell, Fr. Chow, Principal Tam, retired WYK teachers Mr. and Mrs Lai, me and my wife were warmly greeted by the NYOC members. We were taken to China Town for a nice Chinese dinner. The greetings and registration in the afternoon of Frday, Aug 3, was pretty encouraging with nearly 50 attending. Approximately 160 participated in the conference and the Gala Dinner on Aug 4. A boat was chartered by over 100 participants on Aug 6 to have a nearly 4-hour cruise on the Hudson River. During this IC, I believe everyone had a good update on how the 2 schools, WYHK & WYK, as well as all overseas Chapters were doing after listening to the presentations from the NYOC, Principal Tam, Principal Tan, Fr. Deignan, Fr. Chow as well as representatives from all Chapters and the 2 Student Ambassadors. Fr. Chow had also given us an update on the Jesuit University and requested us to support this project by clicking " Like " and " Share " on Facebook, which I had already done. Pictures are uploaded to my web album.

We had a very successful Annual Concert which just took place last Saturday (14 July) at the School Hall of Wah Yan Kowloon. Obituary: Sammy Chiu Shuk-Ming ('38) 趙叔明
It is to our great sadness that our eldest member in Ontario, Canada, Sammy Chiu Shuk-Ming (趙叔明 WYCHK '38) passed away early this month at the age of 92. He was the Scoutmaster of the 1st Hong Kong Sea Scout Group before WWII. After Scout activities were stopped during the War, Sammy helped in resuming the Group's normal operations. As for those who known him through the Ontario Alumni Association, many will remember his support to the Association till his late-80s and his stunning singing performance at our gatherings.

Fr Baptista celebrated his 71st birthday with Wah Yan old boys and their families at L'Hotel in Wong Chuk Hang, Island South, last night. Fr Baptista was the Principal of WYHK from 1985 to 1988 since when his friendship has remained dear to many Wahyanties.
